About Muir Swimming

Muir Swimming was founded in 2016, with the purpose of providing opportunities for babies, infants and children to learn the basics of swimming in a private facility away from the crowds of bigger centres.

Our Facility

The facility boasts a 12.5m indoor pool, private change facilities and bathrooms.

The pool is heated to 32c. This allows all our swimmers, especially our babies, to swim in a comfortable environment without the water temperature becoming a distraction.

Small Classes

Classes have a maximum of 4 swimmers to maximize one on one time with our teachers.

This gives our young swimmers the individual attention that is critical to the development, especially in their early stages of development.

Our Mission

We understand that each swimmer develops their skills and each stroke at different rates.

Our small class sizes allow us to have a more individual approach for each swimmer, designing programs for their individual needs to not only progress as a group but progress at every swimmers individual rate.

Dylan Muir

I have been Head Coach of the South Gippsland Swimming Club since 2012 and running Swim Schools since 2015. I have been a competitive swimmer since the age of 7 and have always loved being in the water, whether that is swimming laps in a heated pool, or out in the surf in the middle of winter. I love teaching all ages, from the first strokes in a child’s learn to swim journey, all the way to performance swimmers competing at a National level.

I now focus most of my time with the performance swimmers, many of which go full circle to become our next wave of swim teachers. I love watching them grow in the role that I started in a long time ago.

Lorri McKenzie

Coming from a background of competitive swimming and the enjoyment I get from working with children is the reason I got involved in Swim Teaching. I love encouraging a first time swimmer to have a go, to not be afraid and to watch them improve every lesson and every week.

The fundamentals of swimming are so important and I get enjoyment out of teaching these to every swimmer, knowing that these skills will help them enjoy the water safely and confidently.

Sarah Wickham

I am apart of the admin team with Muir Swimming. It is one of the most rewarding jobs to find a space that works for your child to learn to swim.

I am lucky enough to work from home so I can be present with my two young sons. I also work for other swim schools that Dylan owns in the south Gippsland area and SGB Swimming club.

When teaching I love to teach backstroke – although this is my least favourite stroke to swim.

I am inspired by our swim teachers who are at school, studying and also competing at a high level and giving their all. It takes skill and scheduling to achieve what they do.

I have still yet to work out what I would like to do when I grow up and enjoy the challenge of adding study into my life to keep the knowledge base growing. I currently hold my cert 3 and 4 in fitness, coaching and swim teaching qualifications and am doing my cert 3 in early childhood education currently.

Tomei Dal Pozzo

I have been a swimming instructor at Muir Swimming for nearly three years and it is because of my love of teaching children to swim, that I enrolled in a Bachelor of Education at Monash University. My philosophy as a future educator and a swimming teacher is that children are confident and capable. I believe that my role is to provide children with an opportunity to have a go, and nine times out of ten they can do it!

I believe that my strengths as a swimming instructor are with infants and kinder classes. I love seeing them grow up, fall in love with the water and learn to swim. When teaching, I love to teach water safety, including survival backstroke, floating and safe entries as these are fundamental survival skills.

Away from teaching, I am also a swimmer myself and am coached by Dylan at South Gippsland Bass Swimming Club. I also recently moved to a Dairy Farm in Glen Alvie with my partner. We have a gorgeous Border Collie, Ollie.

I also work for other swim schools that Dylan owns in the South Gippsland area and manage the social media accounts and websites for all the swim schools. If I am not in the water, I have a camera in my hand!

Hayden Barnes

I have been a swim instructor since the beginning of 2022. I had my swim teaching qualifications for a while when Dylan asked me if I was keen to jump aboard Muir Swimming. My favourite stroke to teach is backstroke!

My dream job comes with helping other, so whether is teaching, coaching or community work, I am not 100% set on anything yet. My grandfather is my biggest inspiration in this regard. He inspired me with his willingness to help others and he always had a smile on his face.

If I could have coffee with anyone in the world it would have to be Tim Taranto, Prince William and Marcus Rashford.
